2017 Habitat Gala – Black and White Soiree

What does ‘home’ mean to you?

Who better to ask what the concept of home means than children? Genworth Canada, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, is asking students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to share their stories, videos and poems in the Meaning of Home Contest. The winning student will receive a $50,000 donation towards a Habitat build of their choice, in addition to a $1,000 donation to their school. There are 10 second-place grants of $5,000 toward their local Habitat, and Genworth will also make a $10 donation to local Habitats from coast to coast for every entry received. “I believe it is important that our youth recognize the power they have to …

I Hope I Never Forget

The story was about a man in Clayton Heights, B.C., who was lobbying the local municipal government to have basement suites deemed illegal and to not allow renters in his neighborhood. His words: “They are only renters.” His complaints were that renters took up too many parking spaces and the local schools were filled to capacity because of these renters. Family Selection Story

Devin Manning was driving to a carpentry job here on the Sunshine Coast when he got the phone call that would change his life. “(Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast board chair) Laurie Vance called to give me the news that my family had been accepted for a Habitat home. It was a surreal experience. I drove straight home to tell Danielle (Falardeau, his partner). 2017 Affordable Housing Survey Results

Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast (HFHSC) has received $100,000 from BC Housing.

The money, to be used in the building of affordable homes on the Sunshine Coast for families, comes from a new, “$50,000 per door” grant that BC Housing offers to approved affordable-housing projects.
