What does ‘home’ mean to you?

Who better to ask what the concept of home means than children? Genworth Canada, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, is asking students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to share their stories, videos and poems in the Meaning of Home Contest. The winning student will receive a $50,000 donation towards a Habitat build of their choice, in addition to a $1,000 donation to their school. There are 10 second-place grants of $5,000 toward their local Habitat, and Genworth will also make a $10 donation to local Habitats from coast to coast for every entry received. “I believe it is important that our youth recognize the power they have to …

Can’t they already afford a home?” I was catching up with a friend of mine who lives in a city far away from our (sometimes) sunny shores when she made these comments. And she is partially correct. 3rd Annual Habitat Harvest

“An Evening of Gourmet Fare, Fine Wines and ReStored Art” on Friday, November 30th at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club. Attendees will enjoy a seven-course dinner with perfectly-paired wines, and interpretation provided by wine steward extraordinaire, Jacquelin George. Local artists have been commissioned to create what “home” means to them, and ReStored “Home” creations will be auctioned by auctioneer extraordinaire, Ed Hill. Habitat Harvest Dinner and Dance

In addition to the banquet meal catered by Chasters of Bonnybroook Lodge, the choice of some fine wines, the toe-tapping dance music of the Joe Stanton trio, the variety of silent auction and raffle items, and the chance of winning the GRAND PRIZE, Habitat Harvest attendees will have the opportunity to “Donate a Door” for a home in the Sunshine Village project. The Fund Raising Committee for Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast is busy putting the final touches on plans for an evening of feasting, dancing, silently going after auction items or taking a chance on raffle prizes. The highlight of the evening will come when the winner of the GRAND PRIZE  – 3 nights at the Whistler Delta Hotel combined with a Scandinave Spa and Whistler Blackcomb lift experience.
