Sechelt, B.C., June 22, 2024 – Today Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast celebrated the completion of the Habitat Sunshine Village at Wilson Creek and the arrival of two new families at the Village. This marks the completion of the Sunshine Village project which includes six duplexes and a fourplex. The sixteen families in the Village were joined by special guests, Habitat volunteers, and some of the hundreds of donors who have made the Village a reality over the last ten years.

The sixteen homes are truly a testament to the support of the Sunshine Coast community to help deserving working families in need of a hand up with a safe and secure place to call home” said Dave Taylor, Chair of Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast’s Board of Directors.
This project has been made possible in part by an investment by the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia and British Columbia Housing Management Commission (BC Housing)
Since 2019, the Government of Canada has made a total funding commitment of $260,000 through the Affordable Housing Fund under the National Housing Strategy towards Habitat Sunshine Coast’s projects, including these homes.
“By investing in affordable housing projects in Sechelt and across the country, we are building inclusive and accessible housing for those who need it the most,” said Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country. “Today’s announcement is an example of what strong partnerships in the housing sector can do to build deeply affordable housing. Together, we celebrate the completion of this development in Sechelt and wish all the families the best in their next chapter as homeowners. The Government of Canada will continue working with partners like Habitat for Humanity to deliver housing solutions in communities across Canada so that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.”
In March 2023, the Government of Canada and Habitat for Humanity Canada announced an additional $25 million investment to build 500 new affordable homes across Canada over the next three years. This brings the total federal investment in Habitat for Humanity to $80.8 million through the Government of Canada’s Affordable Housing Fund.
